چکیده

The Beard-Maxwell reflection model is presented as a new local reflection model for use in realistic image synthesis. The model is important because there is a public domain database of surface reflection parameters, the Nonconventional Exploitation Factors Data System (NEFDS), that utilizes a modified form of the BeardMaxwell model. Additional surface reflection parameters for the database can be determined because a measurement protocol, using existing radiometric instruments, has been specified. The Beard-Maxwell model is also of historical significance because it predates many computer graphics reflection models and because it includes several features that are incorporated into existing local reflection models. The NEFDS is described and a special shader is developed for use with NEFDS. The shader makes use of the alias method for determining random variates from discrete probability distributions. Realistic images are synthesized from the existing database and from samples that were characterized using the measurement protocol.

A Copula-Based BRDF Model

In this paper, we introduce a novel approach for modeling surface reflection. We focus on using a family of probability distributions called Archimedean copulas as BRDF models. The Archimedean representation has an attractive property in that the multivariate distributions are characterized by their marginal distributions through a single univariate function only. It is shown that the proposed ...

A Simple Layered RGB BRDF Model

Many natural objects, and in general layered materials, have non-linear reflection behaviour along the wavelengths. An accurate representation of phenomena such as interference and colour separation generally requires a fine spectral representation of light instead of the commonly used RGB components. In this article, we introduce and experiment with a general approach to create similar and con...

A BRDF Representing Method Based on Gaussian Process

In recent years, digital reconstruction of cultural heritage provides an effective way of protecting historical relics, in which the modeling of surface reflection of historical heritage with high fidelity places a very important role. In this paper Gaussian process (GP) regression based approach is proposed to model the reflection properties of real materials, in which the simulation data gene...

A physically accurate reflectance model combining reflection and diffraction

Reflectance properties express how objects in a virtual scene interact with light. They control the appearance of the object: whether it looks shiny or not, it has a metallic or plastic appearance. The reflectance model (BRDF) is essential for photorealistic pictures. Measured reflectance provide high realism, at the expense of memory cost. Parametric models are compact, but it is difficult to ...

Distribution-based BRDFs

The bidirectional reflectance distribution function (BRDF) formalism is commonly used in computer graphics to represent surface reflection properties. Although many BRDF models have been proposed, most do not possess at least some of the desirable practical properties. In this paper we present a simple and flexible model which satisfies many of these requirements. We show that the proposed mode...
